Robo-TEAM
Robotics for Teens, Elementary and Middle School Students (Robo-TEAM)
The Robo-TEAM project is a youth development program designed to link and show the interdisciplinary nature of robotics through exposing students to mechanical and electrical engineering concepts, computer programming and cognitive and behavioral neuroscience. Urban youth will be exposed to two types of robotics—solar and assistive robotics. Youth will be engaged in inquiry and project-based, team-oriented computer science, engineering, and robotics activities.
Robo-TEAM students will learn about and use object-oriented programming languages to include JAVA, Alice, and C+. Students will also learn about artificial neural networks and stimulus-response mechanisms in robots. They will learn about the link between cognition and emotion. These interdisciplinary concepts on the brain and human behavior will be introduced and explored to expose students to the research underway to create Emotional Robots.
